July 7 – July 15, 2018 (Ages 10+)
We will be taking a team no larger than 28 to work alongside Missionary Sharon Jimenez who has been on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation ministering to members of the White Mountain Apache tribe since 1996. Fifty-five percent of the population is under the age of 18 and 72% under the age of 28. With 92% unemployment rate, ministry needs are of vital importance so that children can learn of the love, forgiveness and hope that only comes from Jesus.
There are several projects on the reservation that are underway and need additional funding. They have received an old modular building from the local tribe that they will be using for classrooms. Additional furniture and equipment, toys and manipulatives, and curriculum are still needed before the kids’ ministries can be fully operational.
They have had to establish a preschool ministry to accommodate the growing numbers of kids in the birth-through-5 range. There is a need to furnish and stock each of the nursery, toddler and preschool ministries.
In addition to serving the local population in Whiteriver Sharon is ministering to children from all the reservation churches. They have been in the process of establishing Girls Ministries and Royal Rangers to allow children from all the Assemblies of God churches on the reservation to receive the discipleship training offered through these ministries. There is an immediate need for books and supplies related to these ministries.
Trip Description: White Mountain Apache Reservation, home of historic Fort Apache, is located in Whiteriver AZ, 180 miles East of Phoenix AZ. At 92% unemployment, ministry needs are of vital importance so that children can learn of the love, forgiveness and hope that only comes from Jesus. During your mission trip you will be serving alongside the local church to build relationships with the children through a daily sports camp and evening services. During the afternoon we will connect you with people and practical opportunities to show your love and to share your love with others through physical projects. This is an amazing opportunity not only to serve but to be immersed in Apache culture.
